Renaissance Cartoon: Equestrian Monument
15 x 11 inch - Fineliner and Gua on paper
Cartoon by Martin Missfeldt - September 24, 1994
The horseman-giraffe statue of John Hawkwood, after Paolo Uccello. Model is the famous Fresko of Paolo Uccello, which is in the cathedral to Florenz. It shows the army leader Giovanni Acuto (engl. John Hawkwood).
The work formally consists in the reason of two squares: Down the solid base, above the horse with the rider on it. Remarkable are on the one hand the perspective construction and on the other hand the Sujet: Uccello paints not the army leader Hawkwood, but its marble rider fixed image.
